The Marsh Sediment in Translation (MSiT) project team worked with decision makers using a deliberate collaborative process involving surveys, interactive workshops, and iterative document review and revision to improve understanding of key principles of sediment transport. This resource contains the initial survey and workshop slides from the project.

Abstract

Thin-layer sediment placement (TLP) is a promising management tool for enhancing tidal marsh resilience to rising seas.

Journal Article |

This 2021 article which appeared in Estuaries and Coasts provides a synthesis of native oyster restoration projects conducted from California, USA, to British Columbia, Canada.

About this Project

Thin-layer placement (TLP) is an emergent climate adaptation strategy that mimics natural deposition processes in tidal marshes by adding a small amount of sediment on top of marsh in order to maintain elevation relative to sea level rise.

Tool |

This advisory committee charter, developed for a National Estuarine Research Reserve project to evaluate a thin-layer placement as a strategy for marsh resilience, offers an example for engaging diverse end users in collaborative research.

Multimedia |

This story map and K-12 activity invites students to explore coastal marsh vulnerability to sea level rise and a collaborative experiment to enhance marsh resilience at the Chesapeake Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve in Virginia.

Factsheet |

The Native Olympia Oyster Collaborative brochure Restoring Resilient Native Oysters from Baja California to British Columbia provides an introduction to Olympia oyster restoration for general audiences.

Project Overview |

This project overview describes a 2018 Catalyst project that created an Olympia oyster restoration network to enhance the success of West Coast restoration efforts.

Tool |

This document provides guidance on the use of thin-layer sediment placement (TLP) as a tool for tidal marsh resilience in the face of sea-level rise.
