This resource contains the recording for the student symposium titled "Ecosystem Dynamics & Trends Across Seven National Estuarine Research Reserves," a series of presentations given as part of the 2023 catalyst project "Synthesizing long-term SWMP datasets to quantify estuarine ecosystem dynamics and identify trends along an ecological gradient."

GUIDE CASE STUDY: Collaborative science projects are designed to inform and catalyze action, but often those impacts do not develop until after a grant ends. Two project teams working with New England reserves found different ways to support the work of their partners after their grants ended.

GUIDE CASE STUDY: Collaboration with diverse team members and stakeholders can sometimes result in disagreements or contention, as was the experience of the New England Climate Adaptation Project, a regional initiative involving the four New England reserves.
This project facilitated the transfer of knowledge from the updated 2021 New Hampshire Land Conservation plan to intended users in the Piscataqua watershed region through a focused outreach effort, which included a needs assessment, formal knowledge transfer workshops, and a technical assistance program.

GUIDE CASE STUDY: To be effective, collaborative project teams must include the right skill sets, but it’s also important to include team members who have established relationships with or access to your project’s intended users.
Through a 2020 catalyst project, the Heʻeia and Kachemak Bay Reserves worked to advance the equitable representation of cultural ecosystem services in estuary stewardship by providing practical information and opportunities for facilitated exchange.

Keywords: cultural ecosystem services, ecosystem services
Cultural ecosystem services (CES), one of four main categories of ecosystem services, are often described as the non-material benefits that humans receive from their interactions with the environment.

This table summarizes the key findings related to the fish capture, transport and husbandry practices tested in the 2020 catalyst project led by the Kachemak Bay Reserve to catalyze future research on the mechanisms of paralytic shellfish toxin transfer from forage fish to upper trophic populations.
Staff from the Kachemak Bay NERR expanded research collaborations and completed proof of concept activities to catalyze future research on the mechanisms of paralytic shellfish toxin transfer from forage fish to upper trophic populations– an increasing concern after statewide seabird die-offs and
