Training and Facilitation Toolkit for the Alaska Fisheries Resilience Index

Strong fishery-related businesses buoy coastal communities in the face of natural hazards and disasters. In Alaska, coastal climate change impacts are occurring at a rate that is challenging the ability of resource-dependent businesses to respond and adapt. A collaborative project led by the Kachemak Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve created tools to support climate adaptation planning for Alaska fishery industry businesses and the communities that depend on them.

About this resource

This professional training toolkit is designed to support facilitators and leaders of coastal resilience processes to use the Alaska Fisheries Resilience Index, a business self-assessment tool for fishery industry leaders and businesses. The Fisheries Resilience Index is a simple and inexpensive method of predicting if individual fishing businesses and regional fisheries industry are prepared to maintain operations during and after disasters.

The toolkit contains templates for a workshop event scoping form, process agenda, participant flyer, and session evaluation. It is accompanied by a template PowerPoint slide deck that can be customized for similar workshops in coastal communities across Alaska.
