About the project
The Hudson River National Estuarine Research Reserve (HRNERR) has diverse stakeholders including an engaged public and critical fisheries managers. Acoustic monitoring provides an exciting opportunity to engage key stakeholders and end users from the overlapping perspectives of education/outreach and data collection to inform fisheries management. Passive acoustic data collection surveys cover a broad region including HRNERR component sites and adjacent habitats. The project sought to understand the dynamics of important migratory fishes and establish seasonal and spatial use patterns in protected habitats.
About this resource
This project generated two datasets from passive acoustic monitoring in the the main channel of the Hudson River as well as tributary and wetland habitats. The dataset description provides more information about each dataset.
Dataset 1: Main stem calibrated passive acoustic data
Calibrated passive acoustic recordings collected by SoundTrap recorders deployed in the Hudson River main channel to investigate the use of bioacoustics for fish species and habitat monitoring.
Dataset 2: Tributary/marsh uncalibrated passive acoustic data
Uncalibrated passive acoustic recordings collected by Swift Units deployed in tributaries and marshes of the Hudson River to investigate the use of bioacoustics for fish species and habitat monitoring.

Datasets have been archived in and can be downloaded from the NOAA National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI) Passive Acoustic Data archive.
