About the Project

Seagrass restoration is a high priority across the National Estuarine Research Reserve System and the focus of many collaborative partnerships. While the majority of seagrass restoration efforts to date have transplanted adult shoots using a variety of planting techniques, seed-based methods are becoming more common due, in part, to emerging observations of several key benefits. As interest in seed-based restoration of seagrass meadows has increased, so has the need for a way to effectively communicate the location, magnitude, and timing of seed collection and planting efforts. To address inequities in access to information and resources, this Catalyst project worked to develop a comprehensive summary of seed-based restoration methods. The project team conducted an online survey and convened three workshops to identify key knowledge gaps and establish a cross-continental network of practitioners. This project has facilitated new partnerships as well as the development of tools to support the continued exchange of ideas and information.

About this Resource

This online interactive database provides a platform to share and view data on past, current, and future seed-based projects, including the location of source/donor and restoration sites, as well as the magnitude and timing of these efforts. This simple interface can be used as a resource for designing seagrass restoration projects using seed-based methods.
