About the Project

This multi-reserve catalyst project brought together geographically distinct reserves that share pathways of avian migration. Together, the reserves adapted existing methodologies for integrating conventional science and Indigenous Knowledge. The resulting knowledge exchange demonstrated that embracing Indigenous Knowledge in estuary stewardship has cascading benefits for birds and people.

About this Resource

This tool offers a synthesis of diverse perspectives on integrating Indigenous Knowledge and conventional science shared by workshop participants, reserve staff, and host communities over the course of the project. The tool is intended to help users including, NERRs and Indigenous and local community partners, Pacific Birds and other Migratory Bird Joint Ventures, and coastal conservation practitioners more broadly, re-envision existing methodologies for integration of multiple knowledge sources.
