Collaborative Research to Manage Stormwater Impacts on Coastal Reserves

Stormwater outfalls that discharge into coastal waters have detrimental impacts on human and ecosystem health worldwide. Low lying coastal towns are struggling with a range of issues that making stormwater management challenging, including aging infrastructure, growing populations, and rising sea levels. A 2016- 2020 Collaborative Research project conducted applied research using a multi-faceted, collaboratively-designed approach to assess stormwater impacts from the Town of Beaufort on the adjacent Rachel Carson Reserve, a component of the North Carolina National Estuarine Research Reserve.
