Project Overview Resource
October 2018

Stormwater outfalls that discharge into coastal waters have detrimental impacts on human and ecosystem health worldwide. Low lying coastal towns are struggling with a range of issues that making stormwater management challenging, including aging infrastructure, growing populations, and rising sea levels. A 2016- 2020 Collaborative Research project conducted applied research using a multi-faceted, collaboratively-designed approach to assess stormwater impacts from the Town of Beaufort on the adjacent Rachel Carson Reserve, a component of the North Carolina National Estuarine Research Reserve.
