Motus Station Educational Materials

Motus Station Educational Materials

About the Project

Over half of the NERRs have Motus wildlife tracking stations, which provide new information on the presence and movements of animals. With the number of Motus stations increasing across the NERRS, this project seized an opportunity to develop a collaborative community and expand MOTUS data infrastructure across the NERRS. This catalyst project developed a website to display Motus data across the NERRS, fostered new educational experiences, constructed Motus stations at four sites that previously did not have towers, and promoted communication and collaboration among NERRS staff.

About this Resource

These educational materials, co-developed with NERRS education coordinators, can used to introduce students (grades 6-12) to the Motus Wildlife Tracking System and its connection to the National Estuarine Research Reserve System (NERRS). The curriculum is designed to engage students with hands-on, creative, and collaborative activities and to develop scientific skills such as data analysis, critical thinking, and forming hypotheses.
